Baiame Cave Excursion

On Thursday June 27th a group of St Paul’s students visited the Baiame Cave in Milbrodale in the Hunter Valley. The group were given a tour of the site by an elder of the Wonnarua people, Uncle Warren Taggart. Uncle Warren explained the story of Baiame the creator spirit, and the symbolism of the paintings.

The tour gave the students a personal experience of Wonnarua culture and enabled the students to appreciate the importance of this sacred site. A group of Year 11 Legal Studies students also attended to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ customary laws.
