Languages

St Paul’s has a longstanding Language program with a history of achieving some of the best results in the state. We seek to create within students, at beginning and advanced levels, the ability to use language to both appreciate other cultures and to negotiate the complexities of an increasingly intercultural world.

Our teaching is founded in the belief that all students:

  • are capable language learners and all teachers are language teachers
  • have a cultural and linguistic identity that should be valued and developed
  • deserve equitable access to learning
  • need intercultural skills to engage within their local and global community

We wish our students to become lifelong learners who are critical readers and thinkers, effective writers and communicators who are able to apply what they have learned in a meaningful way that contributes to the greater community.
